what you need to know and do about
EU worker employment
post Brexit
BREXIT HAS COME!
The UK left the EU on 31st December 2020. That means companies in the UK that employ or hire EU citizens need to make additional checks to make sure they have the right to work in the UK.
DO I NEED TO PANIC?
Well, if you employ or hire EU citizens or any non British passport holders you should have verified them using the government's 'Share Code' checker by 30th June 2021.
WHAT’S THIS NEW IMMIGRATION SCORING SYSTEM?
A new immigration system now applies to EU citizens moving to the UK to work and will need to get a visa in advance. EU citizens applying for a skilled worker visa will need to show they have a job offer from an approved employer sponsor to be able to apply. If you’re an employer planning to sponsor skilled migrants and are not currently an approved sponsor, you should consider getting approved now - you can do that here: https://www.gov.uk/uk-visa-sponsorship-employers. There are costs to get approved and costs for every individual EU citizen you sponsor so it will be increasingly more difficult and expensive to hire international workers going forward!
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NOW?
If you are using The Square, we will take care of and comply with the legislation to ensure that your contract workforce is 100% compliant to work in the UK.
If you not using The Square and already employ or plan to employ EU citizens you need to ensure that each and every one of them have the correct valid proof of ID and right to work. We recommend you do this now to ensure neither you or your team are caught out without the correct documentation.
If you want to ensure you're covered for this and for the IR35 legislation, get in touch with one of the team now.
